Boys Major Division Preview

Duluth East

Fittingly, the Greyhounds offer a nice northern Minnesota flair up front with talented forwards Dallas Vieau and Noah Urness, coupled with perennial all-tournament selection Danny Nelson. Like Will Skahan and Adam Kleber (continue reading Edina's preview), Greyhound defender and the Western States Invite '06 all-tourney pick Tanner Henricks brings a championship pedigree to the Duluth East blue line.

The strength of the Hornets lies in its defensive corps, where defending Peewee AA state champions Will Skahan and Adam Kleber of Woodbury team with Patrick Kroski, Cody Kalkbrenner, and Andrew Earl. That impressive blue line group will defend solid goaltending duo, Andrew Lane and Andrew Saxe. Lane is coming off a perfect performance in the Western States Invite, posting three shutouts in three chances.

Grand Rapids

With players hailing from Warroad to Rochester, the Thunderhawks represent one of the most diverse teams in the Peewee Challenge. Pure scorers Brodie Ziemer and Will Zellers were each selected to the Western States Invite All-Tournament team after totaling five and six goals respectively. Those numbers ranked third and second in the 2006 Division. Fellow forward Luke Giuliani provides exceptional back-checking ability from the front end.

Minneapolis Southwest

Put Max Plante, Ben Miller, and John Halverson in your forward group and it's a safe bet your team will score goals. Couple a high-flying offense, featuring 2006 Division Western States Invite Most Valuable Player in Plante, with defensive specialists Nolan Barker and Barrett Dexheimer and you have a lineup without a glaring weakness.

Rochester John Marshall

Standouts on this team include Brendan McMorrow and Keaton Orrey, two players who have continued to improve throughout the summer season. McMorrow's strong play (six goals, eight points) landed him on the Western States Invite All-Tournament team, while Orrey scored the game-winning goal in The Big One championship in March while being named to that All-Tournament team.

Max Plante was named MVP of the 2006 Division of the Western States Invite. He'll play for Minneapolis Southwest in the PWC.
